The transaxle is a power-transmission device that is attached to one end of the engine. It combines the functions of the transmission and the drive axle into a single assembly. It is usually found in vehicles where the engine is located in the same area as the driven wheels, i.e, front engine placement, front wheel drive. The transmission is a case containing an assembly of shafts, gears, and related parts. it is used to transmit power from the engine to the driveshaft. The transmission may be manual, automatic or continuously variable.

There are also extended auto warranties available that can cover repairs to the transmission, transaxle and their components due to mechanical breakdown.
