In order to keep a vehicle in good working order, it must be properly maintained. Also, a vehicle must be properly maintained to ensure the validity of the factory warranty and extended auto warranty, if applicable. Unlike an extended warranty, a maintenance plan will not cover the cost of mechanical breakdown. It will, however, cover the cost of many regular maintenance items that your vehicle requires. Most plans cover tire rotation and balance and engine oil and filter change. There are more comprehensive maintenance plans that will cover items such as wiper blades, in-cabin filter, drive belts, and more. Maintenance plans also cover certain inspections. Just like with the service items, what inspections are covered depends upon the level of the plan. Now, there is an upfront cost to a maintenance plan, but it is often less than what you would pay if you paid for each of the services on an individual basis.
