Engine

You are here

If you have ever opened up the hood of your vehicle, you have witnessed the complex workings of all the vehicle components that make up the engine. With the advent of the hybrid and electric vehicles out there it is important to note that electric vehicles have motors while vehicles that use fuel have an engine. The overall purpose of an engine is to convert fuel into power that creates motion. Gasoline, diesel or a derivative fuel burn inside the engine and combust to create energy therefore a car engine is an internal combustion engine. Several types of engines have been created historically, however the major engine types include diesel engine, gas turbine engine, turbo engine, rotary engine and two-stroke engines. An engine warranty is typically included within the powertrain warranty section of the new vehicle warranty that came standard with the vehicle. Hundreds of components that make up the engine may be included in the coverage of repairs under these warranties. Additional extended engine warranty coverage may be available that covers the engine for repairs due to mechanical breakdown.
