Air Conditioning Evaporator Replacement

You are here

The air conditioning evaporator absorbs heat from the passenger compartment and carries it outside. It also dehumidifies the air in the passenger compartment. It is located behind the dashboard. Usually an air conditioning evaporator replacement is needed due to leakage caused by corrosion.

When the evaporator is replaced, a trained technician flushes the refrigerant from the AC system. Because the evaporator is located behind the dashboard, major disassembly of the dashboard, center console, and much of the interior is needed in order to gain access to it.

Most manufacturer's factory warranty cover an air conditioning evaporator replacement under the bumper-to-bumper warranty, if it fails due to a manufacturer defect or workmanship.  There are extended auto warranties available that will extend coverage of the air conditioning evaporator after the factory warranty has expired. When purchasing an extended warranty, make sure to look at which coverage level includes the air conditioning evaporator.
