Brake Caliper Replacement

You are here

Brake pads are located in the brake caliper. When the brake master cylinder applies pressure to the brake caliper, pressure is distrubuted to the brake pads via a piston in the brake caliper. Then the brake pads come into contact with the brake rotor slowing the rotation of the rotor which slows down and stops the vehicle.  A brake caliper replacement is needed when the brake caliper no longer works properly and does not apply pressure to the brake pad.

When performing a brake caliper replacement, the technician removes the wheel in order to reach the caliper. Then the defective caliper is removed. It is recommended that both calipers on the front or rear wheels, depending upon where the defective caliper os located, are replaced at the same time to maintain the braking efficiency. After the brake caliper is replaced, the brakes must be bleed in order to remove air from the braking system.

Some manufacturer factory warranties only cover the cost of a brake caliper replacement for a short period of time. For a longer time and mileage coverage of a brake caliper, a comprehensive extended auto warranty is an option.
