Often, if engine maintenance is neglected damage to the catalytic converter occurs. and a catalytic converter replacement is necessary.

When performing a catalytic converter replacement, the technician raises the vehicle to gain access to the underside. The catalytic converter is removed from the exhaust system and the new one is installed.

A catalytic converter replacement is usually covered under the federal or state emissions warranty portion of the manufacturer's factory warranty. If the manufacturer factory warranty is greater than the emissions warranty, then the factory warranty will cover the repairs if the catalytic converter fails due to a manufacturer defect or workmanship. If the converter fails due to the lack of maintenance to the engine, then the validity of the factory warranty could be compromised.
