Mass Air Flow Sensor Replacement

You are here

Since problems with the mass air flow sensor are not uncommon, a mass air flow sensor replacement is an important par of maintaining proper operation of a vehicle. The mass air flow sensor is the part that measures the amount of air entering the engine. The computer determines how much fuel should be injected into the engine, based on the input from the mass air flow sensor.  A bad sensor can cause a multitude of problems, including stalling, misfiring, and poor acceleration. A problem with the mass air flow sensor often causes the check engine or service engine light to come on.

When performing a mass air flow sensor replacement, the electrical connection and screws, or clamps, securing the sensor are removed, and the new sensor is installed.

Many manufacturer warranties cover the cost of a mass air flow sensor replacement. However, factory warranties expire after a certain amount of years or mileage. An option available to extend warranty coverage after the factory warranty has expired is an extended auto warranty. It will cover certain mechanical components of the vehicle for certain year and mileage limits after your vehicle's new car warranty has expired.
