Radiator Fan Assembly Replacement

You are here

The radiator fan blades help to lower the temperature of the engine. The motor is an electric motor that turns the fan blades. While a vehicle is moving, air flows through the radiator and cools the engine and when a vehicle is in stop-and-go traffic or stuck at a traffic light, the radiator fan pushes air through the radiator. The radiator fan turns on when the engine's coolant temperature reaches approximately 195 to 210° F.  If the radiator fan goes bad and no longer cools the engine, then a radiator fan assembly replacement is needed before the engine can overheat causing serous damage.

To perform a radiator fan assembly replacement, the radiator fan is detached from the radiator and a new one is installed. Then the engine is started and allowed to run to verify that the radiator fan is cooling properly.

Most manufacturers have their own specifications on how to replace the radiator fan assembly. This factory recommendation must be adhered by to maintain the validity of your new car warranty and extended auto warranty, if applied. If mechanical breakdown occurs due to the improper installation of the radiator fan assembly, the warranty would not cover the car repair.
