Throttle Position Sensor Replacement

The throttle position sensor is a variable-resistance sensor. On most vehicles it is on the throttle body and it continuously sends a voltage signal that varies that reports the throttle position. position sensor, be sure to clean the throttle body, check the throttle cables, and make sure that the air filter is clean. When a throttle position sensor fails it could cause intermittent acceleration and idle problems. When it fails, then a throttle position sensor replacement may be necessary.

When replacing the throttle position sensor, the rubber air intake tube must be removed in order to gain access the throttle position sensor. The throttle body mat have to be removed to gain access the sensor, depending upon the location of the throttle body. Then the electrical connector is disconnected and the old sensor is removed. The new throttle body position sensor is installed, making sure that the rotating teeth are aligned properly. Reconnect the electrical connector, re-set the throttle position adaption for the PCM,  clear any PCM codes, and perform a Drive Cycle Test.

A throttle position sensor replacement is usually covered under the federal emissions warranty section of the manufacturer's factory warranty. In some cases, it can be covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty section of the factory warranty. Also, there are some extended auto warranties that will cover the cost of replacing the throttle position sensor under the more comprehensive plans offered.
