Drive Belt

You are here

A drive belt is  flexible rubber belt that connects various components in the engine compartment, such as the alternator , water pump , emission controls , power steering pump, and air conditioner compressor .

The most common failure with the drive belt is that is breaks from the belt being worn down over time. Most manufacturers have certain specifications on when to replace the drive belt. If the drive belt fails, it could cause a roadside breakdown.

While most manufacturer and extended warranties do not cover the cost of replacing a drive belt, there are maintenance plans available that will. Also, if the drive belt breaks due to the lack of maintenance and causes damage to any part of the vehicle, your warranty will not cover the cost of repairs.
