Fuel Filter

You are here

The fuel filter is a device that removes dirt and debris from fuel passing through. Most vehicles have two fuel filters within their fuel line. There is fuel filter located usually under the engine compartment or under the vehicle. The second on is located in the fuel tank.

The most common failure of the fuel pump is that is becomes clogged. It is wise to replace the fuel filter every 30,000 miles, or when your manufacturer recommends, but it is often overlooked and becomes clogged with dirt and debris.

While most manufacturer factory warranties and extended auto warranties do not cover the cost of a fuel filter replacement, there are maintenance plans that will cover the inspection of the fuel lines.
