Fuel Pump Replacement

You are here

The fuel pump creates pressure in the fuel lines, which pushes gasoline through the fuel injectors and into the engine. A fuel pump replacement is needed when the fuel pump fails and can no longer send fuel to the injectors. This will cause the vehicle to stall. If the vehicle has an electric fuel pump, the relay or fuses could go bad and cause the vehicle to stall.

When performing a fuel pump replacement, the battery must be disconnect to avoid fire and injury. The fuel pump is either located in the fuel tank or under the vehicle near the fuel tank. If the fuel pump is under the vehicle, there may be a removable door, either under the rear seats or the trunk floor, that will allow access to the pump. If it is located in the fuel tank, depending upon the vehicle, the tank might have to removed from the vehicle in order to replace the pump.

Your vehicle's factory warranty will cover a fuel pump replacement under the powertrain warranty. For extended coverage of a fuel pump repacement, an extended auto warranty is an option that will cover the fuel pump after the factory warranty has expired.
