Fuel Pump

You are here

A fuel pump is not always an essential component of internal combustion engine to deliver fuel through the fuel system. Some vehicles simply use gravity to deliver fuel from the fuel tank through a line or hose to the engine. While others use either a mechanical or electric fuel pump. A modern electric fuel pump is a vital component of the fuel sending unit assembly which also includes the fuel filter and the electronic device used to measure the amount of fuel in the tank.

A common cause of failure of a fuel pump problem is a result of the fuel filter or strainer allowing sediment to pass through the fuel pump. In which will clog the system and wear down the water pump over time. Another common cause of problems is when the vehicle has two fuel pumps, while one of them is not performing the other is working overtime to compensate for less efficient fuel pump. Additionally, a clogged or pinched fuel line could result in the fuel pump running dry which could result in a failed fuel pump.

While most factory warranties cover the fuel pump problems, they will not cover mechanical breakdown due to bad fuel or improper maintenance of the fuel system. Which often times is the result of failure with a fuel pump warranty claim.
