Full Warranty

A full warranty, as defined by the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, means the car warranty coverage meets the minimum standards for comprehensive warranties. The determination of a full warranty is quite simple, just ask yourself five questions about the terms and conditions of the car warranty your reviewing:

1. The car warranty does not limit the duration of implied warranties.
2. The car warranty applies to anyone who owns the vehicle during the auto warranty period; not just the first owner of the vehicle.
3. The car warranty service is free of charge, including such costs as towing the vehicle for repairs, replacing the vehicles components or repairing the vehicle when service is needed.
4. You, as the consumer, have the choice of a replacement vehicle or a full refund if, after a reasonable number of tries, the authorized repair facility is unable to repair the vehicle for the same problem.
5. You, as the consumer, are not required to perform any duty as a precondition for receiving service, except notifying the warranty administrator that service is needed, unless the warranty administrator demonstrates that the duty is reasonable. (such as maintaining the vehicle based on manufacturer recommendations)

If all of these statements are true about the car warranty your reviewing, then it is a full warranty (a.k.a. comprehensive warranty). However, most car warranties are not "full warranties", they are considered multiple warranties, as they include both full and limited warranties. Most standard factory warranties include implied warranties that are limited therefore most sections of the factory warranties on new vehicles are limited warranties. There are also some factory warranties that limit the warranty to the first owner of the vehicle. A vehicle protection plan is a service contract, therefore a vehicle protection plan that you purchase to extend coverage from mechanical breakdown is not a full warranty or limited warranty.
