A consumer looking for vehicle protection for their vehicle often times references that they would like to extend their car's warranty. A
warranty extension is technically not provided by most warranty administrators. An extension would imply that the warranty company is extending the exact same coverage that is currently in place on the vehicle at the time of new car purchase. However, only a manufacturer can provide an extension to their
factory warranty, parts warranty or labor warranty. In which, they still provide a new agreement that spell out the terms and conditions of the warranty extension. They do this at times to provide better support for their vehicles warranty when craftsmanship or material defect is found in a vehicle they have manufactured.
For example, when Nissan found out they were having problems with the engine in 2006 Altima, Sentra and SE-R that was equipped with a 4-cylinder engine, they chose to provide a
warranty extension specifically handling the problem up to 7 years or 100,000 miles instead of the normal 5 year or 60,000 mile standard factory warranty.
